We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Technician for a 6+ month contract position to serve as a technical liaison for a global leader in cloud technology and enterprise software. This is a critical opportunity for a professional with 2+ years of hands-on experience in a data centre environment to join a demanding, fast-paced team. Based full-time on-site in the Melbourne CBD area, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of infrastructure issues, from server and storage support to network connectivity problems. This role requires flexibility and commitment, as it is part of a 24/7/365 shift rotation, including weekends and an on-call roster. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux, a solid understanding of the data centre ecosystem, and a passion for process improvement and automation. Participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimisation of all production server hardware, and software
Provides escalated 2nd level technical support for complex technical issues which may include leading problem management cases and providing management status
Manages escalated support cases and leads appropriate internal technical resources and/or 3rd party vendors to resolution
Assist with server operating system and application upgrades, bug fixes, and patching
Perform replacements of failed components such as hard drives/ DIMMs etc.
Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues
Replace AOC, QSFP, MPO, and Cat6 cables
Troubleshoot basic switch issues and replace switches
Working on standardisation projects for both hardware and software under the Oracle technology stack
while providing consistent system uptime as expected in an IaaS environment
Requirements
Strong background in Linux
Previous experience working in a Data Centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment)
Solid foundation of experience supporting servers, storage and networking technology
Responsible for a shift in a 24/7/365 working environment including on-call rostered basis shift
Solid knowledge of Data Centre Ecosystem (cooling, electrical, networking, and structured cabling)
