Job Description

Robert Half is partnering with a client in Buda, Texas to identify multiple Data Center Technicians on a contract basis. This position is ideal for someone who has prior data center experience including shipping, receiving, asset management, equipment installation, cabling, racking, stacking, and exposure to configuring switches and routers.

Job Responsibility

  • Install and secure servers, switches, and related hardware in rack environments while maintaining proper placement and stability
  • Route, terminate as needed, and clearly identify copper and fiber cabling to support reliable connectivity across the data center
  • Organize cables, racks, and hardware layouts to maintain neat, accessible, and well-documented installations
  • Receive incoming IT equipment, unpack and stage devices, and prepare hardware for deployment in designated areas
  • Safely move, position, and remove equipment in data hall spaces, including decommissioning outdated hardware when directed
  • Provide on-site technical assistance by following engineer instructions for cable changes, power cycling devices, and checking physical connections
  • Perform basic physical troubleshooting to identify connectivity issues, damaged components, or improperly installed hardware
  • Coordinate with delivery personnel, contractors, and vendors by tracking shipments, escorting visitors, and monitoring installation activity
  • Support inventory reviews, equipment audits, labeling tasks, and general upkeep to help maintain a clean and efficient facility

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in a hands-on technical, warehouse, facilities, or similar operational environment
  • Ability to work directly with computer hardware, rack components, tools, and cable installations
  • Comfortable lifting, carrying, and positioning servers, boxes, and rack-mounted equipment safely
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
  • Basic familiarity with hardware devices and physical IT infrastructure support
  • Exposure to data center operations, IT support, structured cabling, or rack-and-stack work is preferred
  • Understanding of foundational networking concepts is helpful but not required
  • Experience working with associated hardware, computer hardware, or devices from manufacturers such as Dell Technologies and Apple is a plus
