Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Data Center Specialist III provides the highest level of customer service by controlling and monitoring multi-platform resolution. Monitors and maintains uptime of facilities by minimizing breakdowns and maximizing process and system efficiencies. Assists more junior Data center operators.

Job Responsibility

  • Supports hardware and software installation, configuration, operation, and ongoing maintenance of the computer/data center
  • Operates, monitors, and performs basic troubleshooting of equipment, networks, and data processing/batching
  • assists with logging and documentation of equipment and processes
  • Executes, monitors, and prints scheduled and special request batch jobs and monitors for abends and timely completion
  • Monitors core system platforms looking for slow performance or other system related problems
  • Enters 'Request for Service' for each batch job abend and escalates to IT on call if needed
  • Executes ‘scripts’ to monitor for service availability and proactive mainframe and AS/400 console monitoring for identifying, responding to, and escalating exceptions
  • Monitors environmental controls system (Site Scan) for exceptions
  • Recommends workflow improvements
  • Ensures hardware issues are identified and reported to the vendor
  • Incorporates batch request jobs into the production schedule
  • May mentor lower level employees
  • May also assist with cabling, racking and server installations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) or more years of experience
  • Ability to multitask when given complex problems that require more urgent attention
  • Skilled and experienced in customer service
  • Skilled in diagnosing problems and escalating issues if needed
  • Remaining calm in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to do foundational JCL/JES Commands
  • Ability to do system restart procedures
  • Reliability, organization, and attention to detail required
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Understanding of overall department workflow with the ability to work alone to resolve almost all issues
  • Ability to follow step-by-step logical instructions
  • Ability to monitor master console for messages and alerts
  • Ability to work with print via a high-speed laser printer
