As the Data Center Design Engineer, you will be the primary architect of Crusoe’s operational computing environments. You will bridge the gap between heavy infrastructure and high-performance computing by designing the 'whitespace'- the critical area where our servers, storage, and network equipment live. Your work is fundamental to Crusoe’s mission of aligning the future of computing with the future of the climate; by optimizing power distribution, cooling, and equipment density, you directly enable the scalability and energy efficiency of our sustainable cloud platform.
Job Responsibility:
Architect comprehensive whitespace layouts, including rack placement and aisle configurations, to maximize equipment density while maintaining optimal airflow and accessibility
Partner with Electrical and Mechanical teams to seamlessly integrate power delivery and cooling systems into the whitespace, ensuring robust support for high-performance cloud workloads
Develop sophisticated 3D models and capacity planning tools to project future utilization, ensuring our data centers remain scalable and redundant (N+1, 2N)
Coordinate with Network and Cloud teams to design and implement structured cabling and fiber management systems that meet rigorous performance and low-latency requirements
Participate in design reviews and risk assessments, providing technical guidance to internal stakeholders and external contractors during construction and commissioning phases
Enforce industry standards (TIA-942, ASHRAE) and local building codes to ensure every design is safe, compliant, and performs to the highest reliability standards
Produce and maintain high-fidelity CAD/BIM drawings and schematics that serve as the definitive source for operations, maintenance, and auditing
Evaluate emerging modular technologies and design methodologies to relentlessly improve energy efficiency and site performance
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Facilities, or Data Center Engineering
At least 5+ years of experience in data center design, with a proven track record in cloud-scale or hyperscale environments
Advanced skills in CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, or equivalent) to create precise architectural and engineering schematics
Deep technical knowledge of data center power distribution, UPS systems, HVAC/cooling systems, and structured cabling
A firm grasp of industry-standard frameworks, specifically TIA-942, Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, and ANSI/BICSI
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to drive results within cross-functional teams while managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
A willingness and ability to travel to data center sites to oversee implementation and conduct site inspections
Nice to have:
Advanced Hyperscale Experience: Prior experience specifically designing for ultra-high-density liquid cooling or modular data center deployments
Professional Certifications: Possession of a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCP) credential
Sustainability Focus: Experience implementing LEED-certified or carbon-neutral data center cooling and power strategies
Advanced Modeling Skills: Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to analyze and optimize airflow within the whitespace
Leadership Tenure: Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading external vendor teams through complex infrastructure build-outs
