Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Data Catalog Administrator to oversee and optimize our enterprise data catalog platform. This role is instrumental in managing metadata, enhancing data discovery, and ensuring robust data governance and lineage across the organization. As a key collaborator, you will work closely with data stewards, engineers, analysts, and business teams to improve data accessibility and compliance. This is a long-term contract position based in Columbus, Ohio.

Job Responsibility:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain the enterprise Data Catalog platform to ensure continuous functionality
  • Integrate the platform seamlessly with diverse data sources, including databases, data lakes, and business intelligence tools
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system performance issues while optimizing configurations for efficient operation
  • Oversee metadata ingestion, curation, and classification to improve data discovery and accessibility
  • Collaborate with data governance teams to enforce standards, policies, and lineage tracking within the platform
  • Define and implement role-based access controls and data security policies to safeguard organizational data
  • Conduct training sessions and create documentation to help users effectively utilize the Data Catalog platform
  • Partner with technical and business teams to drive data literacy and promote adoption of the data catalog
  • Recommend and implement improvements by evaluating new features and automating tasks using APIs and scripting
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in data governance, cataloging, and metadata management

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience administering data catalog platforms such as Alation, Atlan, or similar tools
  • Strong knowledge of metadata management, data governance practices, and data lineage tracking
  • Proficiency in working with databases and data warehouses, including Snowflake, BigQuery, and SQL Server
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance standards relevant to enterprise environments
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve integration and performance issues within data catalog systems
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python and API development for automation tasks is preferred
  • Knowledge of cloud environments such as AWS or Azure, and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
  • Certifications in Alation, Atlan, or data governance frameworks are considered an advantage
