Requirements

Graduation from an Accredited Surgical Technologist CAAHEP or ABHES Program
Previous experience working in an Operating Room (OR) setting
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from an accredited program preferred NBSTA or NCCT, but not required
PRN requires a minimum of 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience
CVOR experience is preferred
1-2 years Experience with Open Heart Procedures
Experience with CV Procedures
Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) NCCT Required Or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Required

Job Responsibility

Assembling, organizing and maintaining a sterile field for operative procedures
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and progression of the case and prepare accordingly
Proper disposition of specimens and instruments
Works with entire surgical team to minimize anesthesia time and promote patient safety
Call is required for this position
Assist the surgical team during surgeries
Ensure a sterile environment
Hand instruments to surgeons during procedures
Maintain patient safety
Clean and restock the operating room between surgeries

Functions proficiently in scrubbing, 2nd circulating, and 3rd person/Heart Holder roles of the CVOR
Picks supplies for surgeries, sets up instruments and scrubs for surgical procedure, and performs instrument and sponge count accurately
Obtain specimens, hand over to circulating nurse and verifies location
Facilitates room turnover time
Participates in department on-call schedule
