As Customs Clearance Manager you will be responsible for the day to day management of a large team of people completing in excess of 100,000 customs declarations per annum. The key function of this role is to support and guide the Dublin based, centralised customs team and regional operational teams to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant are in place and adhered to. Work as part of a large team acting as a point of escalation, support, and development of customs knowledge while interacting with Revenue, HMRC, Transit Offices and EU customs partners. Develop your team through training and support, encouraging high performance while ensuring high compliance.
Job Responsibility:
Support the declarations team with any queries that they may have through either knowledge or research
Ensure customs compliant processes are in place and adhered to by the customs and operational teams
Develop and maintain a trust-based and effective relationship with customs authorities in all regions
Anticipate risks and delays, identify solutions, and implement actions when required to support the fast paced operation, while keeping the management team and stakeholders informed
Support the customs team to drive continuous improvements and training requirements
Develop, analyse, and present KPIs to identify trends, gaps and areas of improvement
Collaborate with Customs Operational teams in Ireland and the UK to develop efficient processes and improvements on ways of working
Support our growing brokerage team to develop processes and procedures
Support new system testing, roll outs and training
Ensure the business is constantly compliant with all Customs and HMRC processes and any changes to legislation are implemented throughout the business
Support the customs management team, leading by example to set the standards, boundaries, and expectations for the department
Support and provide back up to the brokerage & compliance Manager as required, ensuring AEO status and general compliance is maintained
Support and advise customers on all import / export requirements
Attend Customer meetings and reviews, providing support in customs related matters
Manage and support the Customs team, via your team leads / supervisors, in day-to-day duties and activities
Manage holidays, absences, and rosters for your team
Identify training requirements, schedule, and ensure all is signed off and filed onto the BMS
Manage and monitor team performance and output, using the generated daily and weekly figures produced to compile reports actionable reports and identify trends
Work with the BIE team to streamline the existing processes and data flows to the Team
Liaise with HR on staff vacancies and staff development requirements, and escalate concerns or issues as necessary
Ensure team probationary appraisals, scheduled reviews and KPI setting are conducted in a fair and consistent manner
Manage the on-boarding and successful team integration of new starters
Requirements:
3+ years team management experience
Strong people management and delegation skills
Possesses a positive outlook, promoting constructive responses to the challenges of work within their team
Strong knowledge of customs systems, requirements, and query resolution
In depth knowledge of customs clearance requirements and procedures
Proactive and responsible, taking personal ownership of role
Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Excellent understanding of supply chains and of the freight forwarding arena
Strong organisation and communication skills
