Job Description

The Building Custodian is required to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the property(s) that are assigned to them. They are also responsible for minor maintenance as assigned to them through the service request system.

Job Responsibility

  • Cleaning building interiors including floors, carpets, walls, windows, hallways, stairwells, common rooms, public washrooms, laundry room, storage rooms
  • Waxing and stripping floors, shampooing rugs
  • Removal of garbage
  • Perform unit turnovers in preparation for new tenants
  • Snow removal, sanding, ice removal from parking lot, sidewalks, roofs, doorways
  • Cutting, watering, fertilizing grass, maintaining flower beds, trees, shrubs
  • Cleaning outdoor public areas and exterior common windows
  • Ensuring heating, ventilation, water systems are in good repair
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as lawn tractors, mowers
  • Perform annual smoke detector testing
  • Perform maintenance as assigned by service request system
  • Perform monthly generator equipment checks
  • Track and maintain inventory level of cleaning supplies
  • Showing vacant units to prospective tenants
  • Participating in move-out and move-in inspections
  • Report maintenance issues using service request system
  • Primary contact for on-site contractors
  • Investigate tenant complaints, rectifying where possible and reporting to Integrated Human Services Manager
  • Conduct monthly Health & Safety site inspections

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or trades orientation courses on building maintenance plus Grade 11
  • 1 to 2 years experience
  • Knowledge of different equipment and tools, building mechanics, safe drinking water regulations, handling of social problems
  • Knowledge of Office 365 programs (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • WHMIS certification
  • Good working knowledge of various small hand tools
  • Ability to work independently and organize work priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact and diplomacy
  • Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset
  • Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License with insured vehicle for employment-related use
