As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for providing and maintaining clean, safe, and well-organized facilities across multiple departments. This role involves performing both routine and specialized cleaning duties, as well as supporting department-specific needs, all while ensuring a safe and clean environment for staff, clients, and the public.
Job Responsibility
Perform routine cleaning tasks across multiple departments, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and emptying trash/recycling
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of public areas, offices, restrooms, fixtures, kitchens, and department-specific spaces
Assist with cleaning and takedown of rooms for events, programs, or meetings
Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair needs to supervisors
Follow safety procedures and use cleaning equipment and chemicals according to guidelines
Support staff in multiple departments as needed, responding to requests for cleaning or general assistance
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, occupational health and safety standards, and relevant regulations
May operate department-specific equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, washers, floor waxer) as required
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishments when necessary
Occasionally assist with moving equipment, furniture, or materials between departments
Ensuring that the building is completely spotless for when it re-opens
Monitor and ensure that the building premises are locked, secure and safe during unoccupied hours
Performs other related duties as assigned and as needed by the department
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
WHMIS Certificate is an asset depending on the Department
Previous janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience is an asset
Must be available for last-minute calls and shift coverage, including mornings or evenings, as needed
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Ability be organized and clean
Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and safety standards
Strong attention to detail and reliability
Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks
Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Valid Driver’s License (Class 5) is an asset
