Guided by MESC’s vision, mission, Maskwacîs Education Law and Declaration on Education, the Custodial Coordinator is responsible for all areas of custodial services including recruitment, orientation, evaluation and training. This position is responsible for ensuring all MESC facilities are cleaned to established standards and that facilities are safe and clean for all MESC students.

Oversee and coordinate the custodial budget
Ensure that custodial services meet the needs of the schools, MESC, and established custodial guidelines
Oversee the upkeep of equipment and supplies
Ensure the buildings are cleaned through daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly cleaning schedules
Establish waste reduction improvements and safety inspections
Ensure that the quality of custodial services meets established guidelines by inspecting the work of custodial personnel and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines
Oversee relevant contractors involved in the delivery of services
Ensure custodial staff comply with all local zoning laws and regulations
Identify federal, provincial, and DISC regulations, requirements and laws that are pertinent to the delivery of custodial programs and work
Maintain regular communications with management and staff to recognize, understand and adapt to the changing needs related to the custodial services of all the schools and outlying buildings
Evaluate new custodial supplies and equipment by conducting testing of such items and recommending the appropriateness of their use
Ensure that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility
Mentor and provide direction to the Lead Custodians
Coordinate and review custodial assessments for custodial staff on a semi-annual basis
Interview job applicants and conduct performance evaluations of staff annually
Recommend formal personnel actions (e.g., hiring, termination, promotion, discipline, layoff) for assigned employees and initiate appropriate action to implement recommendations
Communicate and enforce policies and procedures, resolve problems and address employee concerns and complaints
Monitor and maintain records using the Atrieve HR system and other systems of employees’ work hours, overtime or compensatory time, sick leave, vacation, performance and related information

Ensure staff are provided with the appropriate training

Requirements:
Grade 12 diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
Building service worker certificate preferred
Minimum of 5 years of custodial work experience required
Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience required
General maintenance skills and a basic working knowledge of building systems (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, electrical)
Certified safety officer certification (e.g., CRSP, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information, MSDA) is considered a strong asset
Valid Class 5 – Alberta Driver’s License and a current driver’s abstract demonstrating exemplary driving record
Nice to have:
First Aid skills and certification are considered assets
