Job Responsibility:

  • Performs CT exams by following and verifying referring provider orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies
  • Identifies patient service requirements
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
  • Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient
  • adjusting immobilization devices
  • moves equipment into specified position
  • adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation
  • Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures
  • Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA), using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors
  • Adheres to safety policies
  • At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities

Requirements:

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology
  • Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required
  • For Band Two: Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department
  • certification in Computed Tomography
  • capable of performing all CT related duties
  • For Band Three: Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred
  • certified in Computed Tomography
  • must satisfy the requirements and be capable of performing all duties of a Band Two Certified CT Technologist
  • comfortable operating many of the various platforms that exist within the UR CT environment
