Job Responsibility:
Performs CT exams by following and verifying referring provider orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies
Identifies patient service requirements
Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient
adjusting immobilization devices
moves equipment into specified position
adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors
Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patients age and ability to understand procedure (sight, hearing needs, ability to cooperate) to ensure image quality is successfully obtained
Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures
Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation
Prepares and maintains accurate documentation
Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures
Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA), using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls
Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors
Adheres to safety policies
At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities
For Band One: Is responsible for performing I-stats, pregnancy tests, starting IV's, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, injecting IV contrast, preparing oral contrast, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the CT department with appropriate post CT instructions
For Band Two: With minimal supervision is responsible for performing I-stats, pregnancy tests, starting IV's, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, injecting IV contrast, preparing oral contrast, completing all associated paperwork and computer work, and discharging the patient from the CT department with appropriate post CT instructions
Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees
For Band Three: Serves as a preceptor in the on-boarding of newly hired Technologists
considered a subject matter expert in downtime procedures and acts as super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced to the department
Directly assists in the mentoring of existing employees

Select Band Three Technologists may be designated as leads to support operations on various shifts
Requirements:
Completion of formal training in an approved school of radiologic technology
Maintains current NYS licensure
Maintains American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification
Maintains Basic Life Support certification (BLS) with CE credits as required
For Band Two: Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department
certification in Computed Tomography
capable of performing all CT related duties
For Band Three: Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred
certified in Computed Tomography
must satisfy the requirements and be capable of performing all duties of a Band Two Certified CT technologist
comfortable operating many of the various platforms that exist within the UR CT environment
