Job Responsibility:
Performs computed tomography (CT) exams by following and verifying referring providers' orders and remaining in compliance with the department of Neurosurgery and all governing bodies
Performs I-stats, pregnancy tests, starts IV's, and completes patient scans on the Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU)
Injects IV contrast, prepares oral contrast, completes all associated paperwork and computer work, and discharges the patient from the Mobile Stroke Unit
Works on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assists in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed
Identifies patient service requirements
Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures
Prepares, monitors, evaluates and powers up mobile CT equipment for use on the MSU at start of day
Powers down and ensures appropriate overnight CT power enabled at end of day
Communicates any malfunctions or concerns with clinical engineering
Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements
Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance
Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed
Prepares patient for radiological/CT procedures by positioning patient
adjusting immobilization devices
moves equipment into specified position
adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors
Prepares and maintains accurate documentation
Maintains production and quality of CT images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures
Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information necessary for diagnosis and treatment of stroke while on the MSU, for timely interpretation
Practices radiation protection techniques (ALARA), using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls
Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors
Adheres to safety policies
At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities
Requirements:
Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology required
Minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC required
or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Capable of performing all CT related duties required
Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required
