Job Description:

Accountable for leading the day to day activities of the CT Department which includes working as a CT technologist during high volume times or staff shortages.

Job Responsibility:

  • Accountable for leading the day to day activities of the CT Department
  • Provide information on staffing needs to Manager and provide work schedules to staff
  • Work with Biomed Service to maintain equipment
  • Ensure responsible staff maintain proper supply inventories
  • Ensure responsible staff keep rooms prepared and stocked
  • Work together with Inpatient and Outpatient Scheduling
  • Provide oversite / direction to CT Technologists
  • Oversee the CT Equipment protocols and technical factors
  • Ensure that job aides for specialized exams are available
  • Identify technical limitations among CT Staff members and ensure training is performed
  • Ensure that all CT Staff follow the patient identification policy and department workflow
  • Ensure that all patients are transferred, positioned and immobilized properly
  • Ensure that all staff members are competent with starting IV's for administration of contrast media
  • Ensure that all CT Staff are competent in the operation of power injectors, independent workstations and CT Equipment
  • Ensure that all contrast reactions are properly documented
  • Ensure that CT Staff are trained and competent to function with GE Advantage Workstation, Vitria workstation and 3 DR Post Processing protocols
  • Oversee the competency training of each CT technologist in the use of post processing tools
  • Oversee that procedures are post processed on the correct workstation
  • Oversee the technical trainer's for post processing, equipment functionality, and specialized exams
  • Maintain established Accrediting Organization and Departmental Safety Standards
  • Ensure compliance with IDPH, The Accrediting Organization and other licensing/accrediting bodies
  • Develop a monthly plan to address quality improvement issues
  • Encourage staff to seek additional knowledge and skill
  • Maintain Radiation Safety standards
  • Maintain Fire Safety / Disaster Safety / and Evacuation Policy education requirements
  • Assist staff to attend and actively participate in all mandatory inservices
  • Maintain Daily Quality control on all CT scanners
  • Provide oversite / direction to all CT Staff in the area of Patient Satisfaction
  • Ensure that all staff is involved in maintaining a positive patient environment
  • Participate in providing service recovery efforts
  • Maintain excellent relations with other departments, physicians and staff
  • Lead the Inpatient and Outpatient CT staff Customer Service activities
  • Ensure physician relations and partnership are positive and timely
  • Collaborate with physicians and members of other departments
  • Work closely with Radiologists and Physicians to resolve physician complaints
  • Partner with physicians in the development and enhancement of clinical programs
  • Maintain relationships with Infection Control, Interventional Radiology and ED
  • Participate and implement improvement initiatives
  • Build a team of CT Technologists
  • Collaborate with the manager in the recruitment and selection of staff
  • Role model the Behaviors of Excellence
  • Follow established processes for receiving and resolving employee complaints
  • Provide feedback to manager for performance reviews
  • Function as preceptor to new technologists
  • Utilize appropriate communication skills when dealing with difficult situations
  • Be the role model for engagement
  • Accountable for obtaining documentation for department records
  • Obtains and documents confidential patient histories
  • Documents patient charge data
  • Documents any allergic reactions and safety events
  • Document ordering and receiving of inventory
  • Maintain team members required credentials
  • Maintain up to date and accurate team members time and attendance

Requirements:

  • Completion of approved program for CT Technologist
  • 3-4 years of clinical experience
  • Minimum of 1 year charge experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, multitasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to anticipate patient and unit needs
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to function in a high stress environment
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and call-back
  • Ability to facilitate department and educational meetings
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills
  • Ability to perform job activities with minimal assistance
