An established and highly respected criminal defence practice is looking to appoint a Criminal Paralegal to join its Hertfordshire office. This opportunity would suit a Criminal Paralegal who is passionate about criminal law and looking to build a long-term career within a specialist firm that invests heavily in training, development and progression. The successful Criminal Paralegal will work on a diverse caseload ranging from general criminal defence matters through to serious and complex cases. Working closely with experienced legal professionals, the Criminal Paralegal will gain significant client exposure, practical courtroom experience and the opportunity to develop towards qualification through a structured progression programme.
Job Responsibility
Preparing legal documents and correspondence for ongoing criminal matters
Conducting legal research and preparing briefing notes
Reviewing evidence bundles, disclosure documentation and witness material
Supporting solicitors in preparing cases for court hearings and trials
Liaising with clients, counsel, courts, police stations and prisons
Attending client meetings, hearings and conferences where required
Assisting with case management and file administration
Drafting statements, attendance notes and legal submissions
Monitoring key deadlines and ensuring compliance with procedural requirements
Assisting with Police Station Accreditation and criminal investigation matters
Supporting fee earners on complex and high-profile cases
Maintaining high standards of client care and communication throughout the litigation process
Requirements
LPC or SQE qualified
Genuine interest in pursuing a career in criminal defence
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
Organised and detail-oriented approach to work
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Professional and client-focused manner
