Job Description:

Sacro’s Veterans Mentoring Service (VMS) has a new post available to work with veterans in Forth Valley. The service aims to support veterans who have served within the British Armed Forces and find themselves involved in or at risk of becoming involved in Scotland’s justice system. VMS is an intensive mentoring and one to one support service that is focussed on walking beside veterans, at a time of significant challenge in their lives.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist veterans to recognise and develop their life skills including accessing education and employment training
  • Assist veterans with sustaining their tenancies and accommodation
  • Assist veterans with addressing alcohol and substance use
  • Assist veterans with building the confidence to make critical changes in their lives
  • Assist veterans with addressing their offending behaviour
  • Assist veterans with understanding the effects of offending on their lives, the lives of their families and friends and the wider community

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Lived experience of the military or experience as part of a military lifestyle
  • Experience of collaborative working, advocacy and support
  • Commitment to Sacro’s value base
  • Experience of working with individuals involved in the justice system
  • Valid driving licence and access to a car
  • Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG)
