Are you an experienced Criminal Defence Fee Earner looking for a fresh opportunity in a dynamic and supportive environment? This is your chance to join a well-respected criminal law team, working on a varied and engaging caseload with the flexibility of hybrid working and real prospects for development.

Job Responsibility:

  • Managing your own caseload of criminal defence matters, from initial instruction through to resolution
  • Attending police stations to represent clients during interviews under caution (if accredited)
  • Preparing cases for Magistrates’ and Crown Court, including taking statements, liaising with counsel, and gathering evidence
  • Providing high-quality, client-focused advice, ensuring that clients understand their rights and the legal process
  • Working closely with solicitors and other legal professionals to ensure the smooth running of cases
  • Participating in the out-of-hours rota (if applicable), with additional pay for evening and weekend duties

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in criminal defence law, either as a fee earner or paralegal
  • Police Station Accreditation (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong understanding of criminal procedure and client care
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload with confidence and autonomy
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with a genuine interest in defending clients’ rights
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial

  • Prepare case papers for court bundles and instructions to counsel and expert, as well as assisting fee earners in the arrangement of hearings, attending consultations, taking witness statements, attending site inspections and the instruction of experts
  • Keep case management systems and diaries updated with diary dates as required by the case
  • Handle confidential information in line with the firm's data security protocols
  • Support marketing and business development activity within the team, including assisting with meeting clients, attending training sessions and marketing events, as well as assisting with the publishing of regulatory updates to our client base
