The Credit Underwriter is a developing professional role which integrates in-depth specialty knowledge with a solid understanding of industry standards and practices; demonstrates good understanding of how the team and area integrate with others in accomplishing the objectives of the subfunction/ job family. Applies analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies. Breaks down information in a systematic and communicable manner. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to exchange potentially complex/sensitive information. Moderate but direct impact through close contact with the businesses' core activities. Quality and timeliness of service provided will affect the effectiveness of own team and other closely related teams.
Job Responsibility:
Reviews/re-underwrites pre-funded and post-closing files for credit quality, data integrity, and adherence to CMI credit policy and investor guidelines.
Provides feedback /recommendations via written management summaries on all loans reviewed.
Working with the business and identifies training needs and provide detailed analysis on any trends identified.
Identifies and document policy/process variations and work with Operations to provide both written and verbal feedback, and training/mentoring opportunities as needed.
Interfaces directly with all levels of internal originations and credit policy staff, as well as external customers (Correspondent lenders) to maintain excellent customer service while ensuring the quality/integrity of loans purchased/underwritten by CMI.
Assesses the level of risk associated with each loan on a transactional basis, forwarding referrals, as necessary, to the Fraud Prevention and Investigation Unit, Vendor or Collateral Risk Management, as well as the Repurchase unit.
Interfaces with Risk Management, Originations and/or Credit Policy staff, when applicable, or directed to resolve issues.
Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
