Job Description:

The Underwriter role is responsible for underwriting, closing, and securitizing loans. The objective is to finance new construction and preservation of affordable and workforce rental housing, as well as office, retail, warehouse/industrial, multifamily, hotel, and self-storage properties. Responsibilities include preparing credit submissions, managing communications, regulatory compliance, and conducting analysis on real estate projects.

Job Responsibility:

Create written and oral work products to test financial feasibility and credit worthiness
review due diligence and prepare internal committee packages
process transactions through internal systems
manage communications among internal and external participants
analyze different local and national real estate markets
conduct site inspections and meet with clients
conduct analysis on special projects as needed
assess risk and drive compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.

Requirements:

2-4 years relevant experience
loan underwriting or equivalent experience
excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
ability to work well under tight deadlines and manage priorities
high proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft-based programs
excellent analytical and computer skills
established working knowledge of lending Underwriting Guides and familiarity with Rating Agencies processes
ability to analyze real estate projects for financial feasibility and market risk factors
client-focused with strong relationship management
ability to read and summarize legal documents in the due diligence process
knowledge of loan transaction nuances
ability to travel (20% of time) on short notice.

Nice to have:

Familiarity with Rating Agencies processes
knowledge of commercial real estate concepts such as NOI, Cap Rates, debt service coverage
ability to quickly adopt new technology.
