Institutional Credit Management (ICM) works closely with our front line businesses to serve as a critical component of our First Line of defense for wholesale and counterparty credit risk management and also with our Independent Risk partners to ensure best-in-class risk and controls, as well as client responsiveness. Key responsibilities include portfolio analysis, documentation, risk identification, management, monitoring, administration, and stress testing. The Credit Risk Officer will be part of the global underwriting function primarily focused on Alternatives (Hedge Funds & Private Markets-focused funds), transacting in various products including Equity / FX / Fixed Income Prime Brokerage, Futures and Clearing, Repo, and bilateral OTC derivatives.
Job Responsibility:
Evaluating transactions risk across the business covering full range of products
Primary 1st Line Credit Risk coverage of a portfolio of Alternatives clients tasked with conducting initial, ongoing, and annual credit due diligence on a portfolio of 25 to 30 alternative asset managers
Author initial credit reviews, annual credit reviews, and reviews for material transactions
Lead legal negotiations from a credit risk perspective and seek appropriate escalated approvals required
Role demands excellence in analysis, underwriting, monitoring, and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards of Wholesale Credit Risk and Institutional Credit Management
Involvement in underwriting and supporting a portfolio of complex products
Strong knowledge of Prime Brokerage, Repo, Derivatives and structured lending
Facilitate relationships with key clients, internal stakeholders and 2LoD Risk
Keep in regular contact with his or her client portfolio in order to effectively lead on-site due diligence meetings, Zoom meetings, phone calls
Build a positive rapport with client contacts (ex: COO, CFO, CCO) to enhance the Citi client experience and become a go-to contact for our clients
Understands nuances of local markets, local regulation, capabilities and practices of Citi’s competitors
Provides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships, and escalates issues or concerns in a timely manner
Requirements:
Financial Services experience including 5+ years of counterparty credit risk experience
Underwriting experience spanning various products (e.g. subscription call facilities, Fund Financing, FX, Derivatives, Prime Brokerage, and structured lending)
Experience with other alternative client-types including hedge funds and proprietary trading firms
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
A higher degree or professional designation is preferred but not required (ex: MBA, CPA, FRM, CFA)
Ability to understand capital markets products and complex financing and product structure
Risk/risk-related counterparty credit work experience in banking/financial institutions with expertise in the alternative investment counterparties
Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity
Can effectively take direction and make decisions and/or appropriately escalate counterparty credit concerns under pressure and in a short timeframe
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
Active listening skills
Excellent presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and various constituencies
