The Credit Recovery Counselor supports ODLS’s efforts to help students who are at risk of not graduating on time by guiding them through credit recovery pathways. This position plays a critical role in ensuring equitable access to coursework needed for graduation, working in close collaboration with administrators, teachers, counselors, students, and families. By coordinating individualized plans, monitoring progress, and providing targeted support, the Credit Recovery Counselor helps students re-engage in their education, recover credits, and achieve their diploma.
Job Responsibility:
Expand Student Access: Verify and process early completions of credit recovery courses
Plan Pathways: Design individualized credit recovery pathways
Collaborative Support: Partner with credit recovery teachers and school counselors to coordinate scheduling, logistics, and student enrollment
Monitor Progress: Track student achievement in credit recovery classes
Family & Student Engagement: Communicate with families to explain credit recovery options
Graduation Readiness: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Ohio’s graduation requirements
Capacity Building: Provide training and support to staff and counselors
Accountability: Ensure compliance with state and district policies
Reporting: Provide updates and outcome reports to administrators
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
2 or more years in education experience
Must hold a valid Ohio license, such as an Ohio Teaching License, Pupil Services License, or School Counseling License
