Job Description

Citi is looking for a Credit Officer to play a pivotal role in shaping sound credit decisions that directly influence the performance and growth of our small business and commercial lending portfolio. In this role, you will serve as a recognized subject matter authority, partnering closely with bankers and cross-functional teams to assess complex credit requests and deliver clear, risk-informed recommendations. You will also lead and mentor a team of 6 to 8 credit professionals, making this an exceptional opportunity to combine deep analytical expertise with meaningful people leadership.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6 to 8 Credit Analysts, providing guidance, supporting performance, and fostering a high-quality underwriting culture
  • Assess and underwrite commercial credit requests for new and existing clients, taking ownership of credit decisions that comply with risk policy standards and internal guidelines
  • Prepare comprehensive written credit summaries that analyze business viability, identify key risk factors and strengths, and render well-supported final credit recommendations
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis — including trend analysis, ratio analysis, and cash flow evaluation — on companies, individuals, guarantors, and co-borrowers to determine repayment capacity
  • Perform industry research, geographical due diligence, and review of complex business structures, including entities with foreign subsidiaries or parent organizations
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Citi credit policies and regulatory requirements, supporting satisfactory outcomes in internal and external audits
  • Identify and drive process improvements across the credit underwriting function to enhance efficiency and improve client service outcomes

Requirements

  • 5–6 years of credit underwriting or credit authority experience within a financial institution, with a background in risk management
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of associates, with the ability to guide performance, develop talent, and foster collaboration across a group
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (bilingual proficiency is required)

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze individual and corporate financial statements, cash flow models, tax returns, and complex organizational structures — including entities with international operations
  • Solid grounding in accounting principles and their practical application in the credit underwriting process
  • Prior experience operating in a regulatory or compliance-driven environment, with a clear understanding of risk management frameworks
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines under pressure, and maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and guiding colleagues across functions and seniority levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, including financial modeling, graphs, and analytical tools

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with financial regulations and the regulatory landscape governing commercial banking and lending
  • Master's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline
  • Experience leading credit teams through process improvement initiatives or organizational change in a fast-paced financial services environment
