Citi continues to enhance its business control and governance framework by building out Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a first line of defense business line, to house and consistently manage credit risk activities performed for Citi’s institutional clients. Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (“ICM UW” or “UW”) provides credit analysis, underwriting, and first line of defense credit approval for periodic / material transaction reviews, and any necessary subsequent credit monitoring across all institutional business including Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking relationships. ICM Intermediate Credit Analyst will perform independent credit assessments, financial modeling, and valuations, and maintain ownership of periodic performance reviews. This role has responsibility for the Non Investment Grade portfolio, with a focus on Classified assets. The role requires analytical judgment and adherence to credit quality standards.
Job Responsibility:
Lead preparation of credit notes and valuations using multiple methodologies (DCF, market multiples, precedent transactions, etc.)
Conduct ratio, cash flow, and capital structure analyses to assess creditworthiness
Assess liquidity, debt capacity and other areas of financial and operating performance to evaluate areas of weakness and potential for turnaround, which is measured by setting and monitoring appropriate classification triggers
Monitor operating performance, identify potential red flags, and propose rating actions when needed
Participate in management calls, analyze earnings transcripts, and prepare summary insights
Ensure credit papers adhere to policy standards and contain accurate, well-supported recommendations
Review work of junior analysts for quality and consistency
Collaborate with internal stakeholders on exposure reviews, documentation, and portfolio analytics
Basic understanding of credit agreements, monitoring covenants, etc.
Work closely with other colleagues (Senior Bankers and Senior Credit Officer-level transactors) to remain coordinated on the restructuring/valuation process and assess likely restructuring scenarios
Manage assigned bilateral and syndicated portfolios
Co-manage of accounts with internal partners
Review accounts in accordance with established policies and standards set by Citi
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
Requirements:
Postgraduate qualification such as MBA (Finance), CA, or CFA preferred
Portuguese & English proficient required
Spanish is preferred
3–5 years of relevant experience in credit, banking, or financial analysis roles
Advanced Excel and modeling proficiency
working knowledge of databases (Bloomberg, Factset, Capital IQ) an advantage
Strong grasp of credit principles, risk ratings, and financial covenants
Advanced experience with the internal Policies, Standards, Procedures, Templates
Strong accounting knowledge
Independent problem-solving and analytical depth
Accuracy and structured writing skills for credit documentation
Good interpersonal and time management skills
Solid organizational skills with ability and willingness to work under pressure and manage time and priorities effectively
