We are seeking an experienced Credit Controller to take ownership of day-to-day credit control activities and support the protection of company cash flow. This role is critical to the financial health of the business and will suit someone who is confident, organised and commercially aware. You will be responsible for managing customer ledgers, ensuring timely collection of outstanding balances, resolving queries efficiently and maintaining professional relationships with clients. You will work closely with internal teams to ensure billing accuracy and minimise credit risk. This is a hands-on role with clear accountability and visibility across the finance function.
Job Responsibility:
Manage a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring invoices are paid in line with agreed terms
Proactively chase overdue debt via phone and email, maintaining firm but professional communication
Allocate incoming payments accurately and reconcile customer accounts
Investigate and resolve invoice queries and discrepancies promptly to prevent payment delays
Monitor aged debt and maintain accurate debtor reports
Escalate overdue or high-risk accounts in line with internal procedures
Support the setting and review of customer credit limits
Negotiate payment plans where required, in line with company policy
Monitor debtor performance and contribute to improvements in Days Sales Outstanding
Work closely with Sales, Operations and Account Management to resolve billing or service-related issues
Provide regular updates to Finance leadership on outstanding debt and risk exposure
Support cash flow forecasting through accurate and timely reporting
Assist with audits and finance projects as required
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a credit control or collections role, ideally B2B
Strong understanding of credit control processes and debt recovery
Confident communicator with the ability to challenge non-payment constructively
High level of attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Competent in Excel at an intermediate level
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
Commercially minded with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
Nice to have:
Experience using SAGE 200, TimeGate or CASH systems
CICM qualification or working towards one
Experience handling complex or high-value customer accounts
