The Credit Control Manager is responsible for leading and developing the credit control function to ensure effective management of customer credit risk and timely cash collection across a diverse, high-volume customer base. Operating within a fast-paced energy business, the role will drive strong cash performance, maintain robust controls, and support commercial growth across key sectors including marine, construction, haulage/fleet, and airports.
Job Responsibility:
Own the end-to-end credit control process, ensuring timely and accurate collection of customer debt
Monitor and actively manage aged debt, prioritising high-value and high-risk accounts
Deliver and maintain cash collection targets aligned to business forecasts
Lead the resolution of complex or escalated customer payment issues and disputes
Partner with Sales and Operations to balance commercial objectives with credit risk
Set and review credit limits and payment terms in line with internal policy
Carry out customer credit assessments using financial information, credit agencies, and trading history
Ensure adherence to internal controls, delegated authorities, and audit requirements
Proactively identify emerging credit risks within the customer portfolio
Lead, coach, and develop the credit control team to drive performance and accountability
Set clear objectives, KPIs, and performance standards
Support recruitment, onboarding, and training within the team
Foster a collaborative, professional, and customer-focused culture
Produce regular reporting on aged debt, DSO, cash performance, and risk exposure
Use advanced Excel skills to analyse trends, identify issues, and support decision-making
Provide clear insights and recommendations to senior finance stakeholders
Support month-end close activities related to accounts receivable
Review and enhance credit control processes to improve efficiency and control
Support system improvements and automation initiatives within AR and credit
Contribute to wider finance transformation and continuous improvement projects
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Credit Control Manager or senior AR lead within a fast-paced corporate environment
Strong background in high-volume B2B credit control
Hands-on experience managing trade credit insurance, including: Liaison with insurers and brokers, Setting and monitoring insured credit limits, Managing claims, overdue debt, and policy compliance
Demonstrable experience managing credit risk and complex customer portfolios
Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
Experience leading and developing a credit control team
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Results-driven with a clear focus on cash collection and risk mitigation
