The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

Job Responsibility

  • Be able to operate and generally maintain all types of light and heavy equipment, both diesel and gasoline engine powered
  • Must know quadrant of operation, read load charts, know the structural stability of all cranes and understand the dynamic and shock loading of cranes
  • Select, secure and adjust suitable chains, cables, slings, hooks and other lifting and securing devices to properly load/unload and balance a variety of equipment, and other items being moved or positioned by mobile cranes
  • Perform safety checks on cranes, forklifts, aerial platforms etc., before and after operations
  • Operate mobile hydraulic cranes
  • Operate motor vehicles with responsibility for proper loading and unloading
  • Operate heavy trucks and truck-trailers (4-ton and over) to transport materials and equipment to various areas on the installation
  • Operate ground support equipment as required to accomplish work assignments
  • Ability to fabricate wire rope and proof load equipment

Requirements

  • High School education + 3 years of experience
  • Must have a valid US Driver's License
  • Effective verbal and written communicate skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to hold the necessary security clearances
  • Ability to obtain and maintain valid certifications, licenses, and permits, as required for performance of assigned tasks
  • Requires the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and managers

Nice to have

  • NCCCO and Class A CDL with HAZMAT preferred
  • Motor-Grader experience desirable
