The Role: Class Management & Support As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to supervise lessons and manage student behaviour when a regular teacher is absent. You will not be required to plan lessons or mark work. Your key tasks will include: Classroom Supervision: Oversee classes across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (ages 11-18) during teacher absences, ensuring students remain focused and on-task with pre-set work. Behaviour Management: Effectively implement the school's behaviour policy, maintaining a positive, orderly atmosphere and dealing with any immediate issues promptly. Supporting Learning: Respond to general queries from students regarding their work, helping them access materials and stay engaged (no subject-specific teaching required). Administrative Duties: Register student attendance and leave detailed, accurate notes for the returning teacher regarding lesson progress and behaviour. School Ethos: Act as a positive role model, promoting the school's values and maintaining high expectations for all students. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will possess: Confidence & Presence: Strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to lead a classroom of secondary students. Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with teenagers. Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with groups of young people (e.g., school settings, youth work, coaching, camp leading). Qualifications: A degree is advantageous, particularly for those considering future teacher training, but not essential.
