As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to supervise lessons and manage student behaviour when a regular teacher is absent. You will not be required to plan lessons or mark work.
Job Responsibility:
Classroom Supervision: Oversee classes across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (ages 11-18), ensuring a positive and orderly working atmosphere
Behaviour Management: Effectively implement the school's behaviour policy and deal with any immediate issues promptly according to school procedures
Support Learning: Respond to general queries from students regarding pre-set work, helping them stay engaged without providing subject-specific teaching
Administrative Duties: Register student attendance and leave detailed notes for the returning teacher regarding lesson progress and behaviour
School Ethos: Act as a positive role model, promoting the school's values and maintaining high expectations
Requirements:
Confidence and Resilience: Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to lead a classroom of secondary students
Experience: Previous experience working with groups of young people (schools, youth work, coaching, etc.)
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with teenagers
Academic Background: A degree is advantageous, particularly for those considering future teacher training
Compliance: Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to acquire a new one)
Reliability: Punctuality and a flexible approach to working across different subject areas daily
