Job Description:

This position is for a dedicated and resilient Cover Supervisor to join a vibrant secondary setting in Barnsley on a full-time, long-term basis starting ASAP. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing pre-set lessons during the absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students remain on task and productive. Unlike a teaching role, there is no requirement for lesson planning or marking; the focus is entirely on classroom management, student engagement, and fostering a positive learning atmosphere.

Job Responsibility:

Supervising Lessons: Delivering pre-prepared work left by the teacher
Managing Behaviour: Implementing the school's behaviour policy consistently
Assisting Pupils: Helping students understand the tasks and curriculum
Creating a Safe Environment: Ensuring all health and safety protocols are met
Reporting: Providing feedback to the department on student progress and conduct
Registration: Taking accurate attendance registers at the start of each session
Resource Management: Handing out and collecting books and equipment
Exam Invigilation: Assisting with the supervision of formal assessments when required
Engagement: Motivating students to complete their work to the best of their ability
Safeguarding: Acting as a point of contact for any welfare concerns

Requirements:

Previous experience working with groups of children or teenagers
Adhering to school policies and professional dress codes
An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
Right to work in the UK
Strong Classroom Presence: Ability to command respect and maintain order
Adaptability: Quickly pivoting between different subjects and age groups
Effective Communication: Delivering instructions clearly and concisely
Conflict Resolution: De-escalating challenging situations with a calm demeanour
Time Management: Ensuring lessons start and end punctually
Active Listening: Understanding student needs and providing appropriate support
