A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and committed Cover Supervisor to join a highly-regarded mainstream Secondary School based Wimbledon. This role is crucial to the smooth running of the school, ensuring that learning remains purposeful and productive when the regular class teacher is absent. You will be responsible for supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 for short-term absences, managing classroom behaviour, and ensuring students complete the work set by the absent teacher. Your daily efforts will directly contribute to fostering a stable, focused, and secure learning environment.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise classes across a wide range of subjects in the absence of the timetabled teacher, ensuring tasks set are completed and learning objectives are maintained.
Manage classroom behaviour effectively and proactively, ensuring a positive working environment and adherence to the school's behaviour policy.
Distribute and collect work, explain instructions (as provided by the absent teacher), and handle routine classroom queries.
Report back to the Head of Department or appropriate staff member regarding any issues arising during the lesson, including student progress or behaviour incidents.
Provide general administrative support to the department or school during periods without cover responsibility (e.g., preparing resources).
Adhere strictly to the school's safeguarding and health and safety policies at all times.
Requirements:
Previous experience working with young people (aged 11-16), ideally in an educational, youth work, or similar supervisory setting, is essential.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with a naturally confident and resilient demeanor.
Strong and proven behaviour management techniques, with the ability to build immediate rapport and command respect.
Flexibility, reliability, and the ability to quickly adapt to different subjects, classroom dynamics, and unexpected changes in the timetable.
A naturally positive and professional approach, with an understanding of the importance of maintaining continuity in learning.
A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
