This is a varied frontline role combining court ushering, customer service, and administrative responsibilities within a busy criminal court environment. You will support the smooth running of hearings while also carrying out important back-office and case-related administrative duties. Please note: this role involves working within a criminal court environment and may include exposure to sensitive or distressing case material.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare courtrooms before and during hearings, ensuring all required files, paperwork, and materials are available
Support judges and court staff during hearings, both in person and via Microsoft Teams where required
Call cases, manage attendance, and swear in witnesses
Provide guidance and support to court users, including legal professionals, jurors, witnesses, and members of the public
Working in the Jury Office
Handle face-to-face, telephone, and email enquiries professionally and efficiently
Process court documentation, including scanning, uploading, photocopying, and filing sensitive documents
Update and maintain records using HMCTS internal systems
Assist with listings, scheduling, and general case progression administration
Support wider court operations with general admin duties, correspondence, and digital casework
Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and high standards of conduct at all times
Requirements:
Strong communication and customer service skills
Previous administrative experience within a busy environment
Confident using Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams
Ability to work accurately and manage competing priorities
Professional, reliable, and punctual approach to work
Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable handling sensitive or distressing criminal case material
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
