Brook Street is currently recruiting on behalf of the Ministry of Justice for a Court & Tribunal Clerk to support operations at Bristol Magistrates' Court, alongside administrative duties for Bristol Employment Tribunal. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within the justice system, working in a fast-paced, professional environment where accuracy, organisation and customer service are essential.
Job Responsibility:
Preparing papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings
Producing court and tribunal documentation
Photocopying, filing, data input and updating in-house computer systems
Post opening and dispatch
Booking and organising meeting rooms, training sessions and group activities
Preparing agendas, joining instructions and supporting materials
Preparing standard letters, correspondence, minutes, reports and submissions in line with guidelines
Clerking civil and family courts, tribunals and hearings
Ensuring all materials and documentation are available and up to date
Assisting court users and supporting listing and rota management
Scheduling hearings, serving court documents and executing a range of warrants
Collecting fines and fees (including chip & pin payments)
Handling face-to-face, written and telephone enquiries
Supporting Team Information Board (TIB) meetings
Undertaking ad hoc roles such as Jury Bailiff Officer, L+D Co-ordinator or Health & Safety responsibilities
Managing court orders, claims, fines, fees and legal aid documentation
Accurately updating court results and interpreting case file information
Working to workload targets with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency
Validating documents, records, accounts and returns against procedures and regulations
Ensuring compliance and quality standards are met
Cross-checking colleagues' work where required
Preparing bundles and assembling information for hearings and meetings
Producing statistical analysis reports
Processing financial information, reconciling accounts and preparing invoices
Calculating juror numbers and managing efficiency
Liaising professionally with Judiciary, Magistracy, court staff, managers and external stakeholders
Providing clear advice on court procedures and documentation
Delivering a helpful, prompt and "right first time" service to all customers
Undertaking any reasonable duties in line with the role grade
Working flexibly to meet operational needs
Requirements:
5 GCSEs (A-C / 9-4) including English & Maths
NVQ Level II in Business Administration
Relevant administrative experience
Strong IT skills and ability to use in-house systems confidently
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure
