The post holder will provide high-quality, confidential assessment and short-term individual counselling across the Trust and, where required, to external organisations under agreed Service Level Agreements. The role includes the provision of supportive group interventions and post-trauma support following major or critical workplace incidents. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines, national legislation, and Trust policies, managing their own caseload and contributing to the wider mental health and wellbeing provision within the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service.
Job Responsibility:
Delivering person-centred counselling interventions to staff experiencing psychological or work-related difficulties
Providing timely assessment, risk identification and appropriate referral to specialist services where required
Supporting individuals and teams following traumatic or critical incidents in the workplace
Contributing to the development of psychologically safe and healthy working environments
Requirements:
Able to manage and maintain confidentiality and sensitive issues
Ability to work under pressure, be organised and manage time effectively
Ability to work within a six to eight session model
Able to use a range of therapeutic approached to work with areas related to mental health
Negotiating skills
Ability to keep appropriate clinical records
Able to work as part of a team
Able to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service
Committed to personal and professional development
Knowledge of diversity and bullying and harassment issues
Degree, diploma or professional qualification of a comparable level in counselling
BACP registered
Significant post qualification experience of supervised generic counselling
Nice to have:
Experience of working in an NHS setting or other health environment
Experience of working in an Occupational Health and Wellbeing Department
Experience and understanding of team dynamics and the facilitation of effective team working
Experience of Trauma De-briefing
Experience of facilitating groups
Further training/qualifications in specialist counselling/therapeutic approaches
Mediation skills
Experience of other therapies short courses such as EMDR qualification
Ability to assess risk through managerial supervision with qualified staff and student counsellors
