Job Description:

We have an outstanding opportunity for a tech transactions attorney to join Uber’s legal team as we scale Uber’s global Autonomous Mobility & Delivery business (the world’s best platform for autonomous vehicles and other emerging transportation technologies to go to market). If you’re passionate about creating industry-first deal frameworks, commercial counseling, and transforming the way that people go anywhere and get almost anything around the world, come and join this bold team. This Counsel will own and support a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting and negotiating new agreements that govern deployments across mobility and delivery use cases; interpreting, amending, and expanding existing agreements to support expanding relationships with AV companies, OEMs, fleet operators, and other ecosystem participants; and counseling business clients on data, intellectual property, regulatory, safety and privacy principles, including in global environments. You’ll also support related programs as a critical team member, working closely with cross-functional business colleagues to launch these innovative products and partnerships on the Uber platform.

Job Responsibility:

  • Bring commercial and tech transactions experience and insight to the team, finding creative solutions to white space issues
  • Engage and negotiate with external partners with full-view integration of risk and legal controls in commercial agreements and other outward-facing terms
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues on other legal and cross-functional teams, such as Safety, Product, Policy, Intellectual Property, Insurance, Real Estate, Employment and Privacy to provide comprehensive advice and create solutions that allow the business to move quickly and responsibly
  • Be an active and trusted business partner to the Operations, Engineering and Business Development professionals that launch autonomous, fleet and electric vehicle products at Uber
  • Deploy your commercial perspective in reviewing related products and programs to ensure commercial, regulatory, and safety considerations flow through those initiatives
  • Support new product offerings that help AV partners on their path to commercialization and scale as well as new platform offerings, including drones, VTOLs, and other emerging transportation technologies

Requirements:

  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state
  • 5+ years of commercial legal experience in private practice, in-house and/or government, including at least 1 year of applicable technology transactions experience OR Minimum of 4 years in the above, with 1 of those years being internal to Uber

Nice to have:

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, aviation, vehicle fleets, or on-demand mobility or delivery platforms
  • At least two (2) years of in-house experience is highly preferred
  • Commercial and contracting experience in a regulated industry across multiple markets, delivering clear, actionable terms for clients, customers and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to draft contract language efficiently and effectively both with and without the assistance of templates or prior agreements
  • Experience in an adjacent legal speciality relevant to AV deployments, such as product, regulatory, privacy, insurance, real estate, or intellectual property
  • Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising business teams on a wide range of legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus
  • Clear communicator, team orientated, and willing to take initiative while thinking two steps ahead
  • Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them
  • Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact
  • Enthusiastic about Uber and autonomous vehicles
