The Counsel, GM Energy position will be a key legal and strategic partner to GM’s rapidly growing GM Energy business, supporting a portfolio of home, commercial, and fleet energy products and services, including EV charging, stationary storage, energy management software, and grid services. The role will require an ability to enable business objectives through innovative legal advice for complex matters relating to a variety of operational growth, retail, transactional, and risk management matters.

Requirements:
Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from an accredited college or university
Admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Minimum of 5 years of legal experience with a primary focus on complex commercial, technology, or M&A transactions, ideally in the energy or technology sectors
Demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating complex strategic relationships (e.g., collaborations, co-development or co-marketing arrangements, enterprise technology or platform deals)
Proven ability to operate as an expert-level individual contributor
Exceptional communication skills
Demonstrated ability to build trust and strong working relationships across diverse stakeholders
Nice to have:
Experience with one or more of the following: Energy, utilities, or grid services (e.g., distributed energy resources, demand response, VPPs)
EV charging infrastructure, e-mobility, or automotive/transportation
High-tech, software, data, or platform-based businesses
Experience supporting boards of directors or possessing strong financial expertise is a plus
