Job Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Council Tax Officer to join our Shared Transactional Services team and contribute to the accurate Billing of Council Tax liability. Do you enjoy problem solving, working within a team and delivering excellent customer service? Are you looking to grow or commence your journey in Local Taxation? This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious & keen individual, ideally with experience using MARI Academy & Information@Work. You will be reporting to the Council Tax Billing Team Leader, you will be opening & closing accounts, assessing discounts & exemptions and resolving a variety of customer enquiries. You will work with the team to communicate effectively both internally & externally working towards our goal of keeping our records accurate & up to date. A key part of the role is a sharp eye for detail towards the accurate billing of Council Tax.

Job Responsibility:

  • Process information received in respect of Council Tax and using Information@Work and MRI Academy software to ensure the production of accurate bills and/or invoices
  • Make decisions on and process amendments in line with Council Tax legislation to accounts, including more complex areas of discounts and exemptions
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare written communications to the customer and other organisations to obtain information and in response to enquiries
  • Liaise with other sections/departments of the council, external organisations, stakeholders and customers as appropriate
  • Identify appeals against liability and refer to senior officers as necessary
  • Deal with refunds, write-offs, credit and debit memos and make recommendations for appropriate authorisation
  • Deal with correspondence returned to the service as undelivered taking appropriate action to trace the debtor
