As a Cost Engineer, you will play a critical role in providing insight and driving down the costs of parts and complex modules by simulating production processes. You will also provide early definition of manufacturing process flows and product cost calculations during the design phase in collaboration with the development and sourcing competences.
Job Responsibility:
Act as the technical and costing reference in discussions with engineering, sourcing, and suppliers, taking a clear position on manufacturability, cost drivers, and trade-offs when viewpoints differ
Drive Cost of Goods reduction for parts and modules by influencing design choices with respect to manufacturability, cost structure, and production scalability
Define manufacturing process flows early in the design phase to support fact-based product cost calculations and design decisions
Create transparency in product costing by challenging assumptions, validating supplier inputs, and clearly communicating risks, opportunities, and uncertainties
Identify cost reduction opportunities through in-depth assessment of factory standard costs and by simulating supplier and supply chain cost structures
Collaborate closely with Development and Engineering, Sourcing, and Supply Chain Engineering to align technical feasibility with commercial strategy
Requirements:
Master degree in a mechanical engineering / industrial engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience
Experience in manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, additive manufacturing, and precision mechanics, with the ability to assess trade-offs, cost drivers, and feasibility
Direct manufacturing or industrial engineering experience in an operational environment
Proven ability to explain technical manufacturing choices and cost drivers to non-manufacturing stakeholders such as sourcing leads, suppliers, and management
Experience in analyzing and reporting cost drivers, opportunities, and risks
Understanding of supplier manufacturing capabilities, supply chain constraints, and preferably financial value streams
Experience working in design teams, supplier account teams, and in direct collaboration with suppliers
