An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cost Controller to join Service Stream in Morwell. Service Stream is seeking a Cost Control Engineer to support BAU maintenance and outage delivery across a major industrial asset. This is a high-impact, site-embedded role for a commercially minded professional who operates confidently across operations, payroll, data analytics, corporate finance, and client commercial teams. You will be responsible for end-to-end cost control, forecasting, and financial integration across BAU maintenance and outage activities. Acting as a key commercial interface, you will ensure cost data is accurate, aligned, and decision-ready—supporting both internal leadership and client finance partners.This role is suited to a self-driven, strategically focused individual with strong systems thinking and a continuous improvement mindset, who actively seeks to simplify processes and improve financial insight.
Job Responsibility:
Manage cost control and forecasting across BAU maintenance and outage works
Maintain accurate cost tracking and reporting using SAP
Utilise advanced Excel to analyse, reconcile, and model cost data
Interface closely with Payroll to ensure labour hours, rates, and allowances are accurately captured and allocated
Work with Data Analysts to enhance dashboards, automation, and reporting consistency
Partner with Corporate Finance on accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close
Engage directly with client cost control and finance teams to support reviews, forecasts, and variance discussions
Identify cost risks, trends, and optimisation opportunities early
Support outage cost planning, execution tracking, and close-out
Drive continuous improvement in cost control, reporting, and financial processes
Requirements:
Degree in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
Professional accreditation (AACE, CPA, PMI, RICS) advantageous but not essential
5+ years’ experience in cost control, project controls, or commercial roles
Demonstrated experience in BAU maintenance and/or outage environments
Strong SAP experience (costing, work orders, commitments, accruals)
Advanced Excel capability, including large datasets, multi-source reconciliation, forecasting, and scenario modelling
SQL and Python experience will be beneficial but not essential
Solid understanding of labour and payroll cost drivers
Experience working across payroll, data analytics, corporate finance, and client commercial interfaces
Highly self-driven, accountable, and comfortable working autonomously
Strategic thinker with a practical, delivery-focused approach
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders
Nice to have:
SQL and Python experience
Professional accreditation (AACE, CPA, PMI, RICS)
