A rapidly growing aerospace manufacturing organization is seeking a hands-on Cost Accounting Manager to lead manufacturing cost accounting and plant financial performance reporting for its Montgomery operation, with additional support responsibility for a second plant location. This is a newly created role driven by growth, acquisitions, and increased financial reporting requirements as the company prepares for future public-company readiness. This position serves as the primary financial liaison between Operations and Finance, translating plant performance into meaningful financial insights and supporting leadership with accurate, timely reporting.
Job Responsibility:
Own manufacturing cost accounting for the Montgomery plant and provide support for a second plant location
Develop and maintain standard costing models for materials, labor, and overhead
Analyze margins, product mix, and manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead, scrap, and rework)
Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to validate BOMs, routings, and production efficiencies
Act as the primary bridge between plant operations and finance leadership
Prepare and explain cost trends and variances to plant and finance leadership
Support robust plant-level financial reporting aligned with public-company standards
Ensure accurate inventory accounting for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
Perform inventory reconciliations and support physical inventory and audit processes
Prepare cost-related journal entries and support month-end close
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost driver modeling
Support ERP migration efforts and ensure integrity of cost and manufacturing data
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
Strong manufacturing cost accounting background
Deep knowledge of standard costing, BOMs, routings, and variance analysis
Ability to translate operational activity into financial results for non-finance leaders
Experience working cross-functionally with Operations and Supply Chain
Comfortable in fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environments
Nice to have:
Prior experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Controller, or Plant Controller
Multi-site manufacturing support experience
ERP experience with Epicor, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar systems
Experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, or other complex manufacturing industries
Exposure to acquisitions, standardization, or IPO preparation environments
