Robert Half is partnering with a growing manufacturing company in the Palmer, Massachusetts area to hire a Cost Accounting Manager. This is a high-visibility role supporting manufacturing operations in a complex, project-based environment. The position offers strong exposure to senior leadership, cross-functional partnership, and long-term career growth.
Job Responsibility
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory, cost of sales, and manufacturing variances
Perform cost accounting analysis including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory accounting, and work-in-process analysis
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules
Oversee inventory controls, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory processes
Analyze manufacturing costs and operational performance metrics to identify risks and opportunities
Partner with operations, supply chain, engineering, quality, and program management
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
Assist with project and contract financial tracking, including profitability and cost performance
Provide financial analysis for capital investments, pricing, and cost reduction initiatives
Support process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
Ensure compliance with GAAP, cost accounting standards, and government contracting requirements
Help maintain inventory integrity, indirect cost allocations, and manufacturing cost structures
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, FP&A, or cost accounting experience
Manufacturing experience required or strong interest in transitioning into an operational finance role
Understanding of cost accounting principles including inventory accounting, manufacturing accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
Experience working within an ERP environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to build relationships across finance and operations teams
Motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to learn
Desire to work closely with operations and gain exposure to manufacturing leadership
Nice to have
Cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
