Job Description

Robert Half is partnering with a growing manufacturing company in the Palmer, Massachusetts area to hire a Cost Accounting Manager. This is a high-visibility role supporting manufacturing operations in a complex, project-based environment. The position offers strong exposure to senior leadership, cross-functional partnership, and long-term career growth.

Job Responsibility

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory, cost of sales, and manufacturing variances
  • Perform cost accounting analysis including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory accounting, and work-in-process analysis
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules
  • Oversee inventory controls, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory processes
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and operational performance metrics to identify risks and opportunities
  • Partner with operations, supply chain, engineering, quality, and program management
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Assist with project and contract financial tracking, including profitability and cost performance
  • Provide financial analysis for capital investments, pricing, and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, cost accounting standards, and government contracting requirements
  • Help maintain inventory integrity, indirect cost allocations, and manufacturing cost structures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, FP&A, or cost accounting experience
  • Manufacturing experience required or strong interest in transitioning into an operational finance role
  • Understanding of cost accounting principles including inventory accounting, manufacturing accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
  • Experience working within an ERP environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships across finance and operations teams
  • Motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to learn
  • Desire to work closely with operations and gain exposure to manufacturing leadership
