We are looking for a Cost Accounting Manager to lead product costing and inventory valuation activities for retail/consumer products operations in Boston, Massachusetts. This individual contributor role will translate detailed product and supply chain data into financial insight that supports margin improvement, accurate close processes, and informed business decisions. The position works closely with sourcing, production, logistics, and accounting partners to strengthen cost visibility, maintain reliable valuation methods, and improve reporting efficiency.
Job Responsibility
Lead standard cost development, including detailed bill of materials review and ongoing cost updates
Examine material, freight, duty, and production cost fluctuations to identify drivers of margin erosion and recommend corrective actions
Partner with sourcing and operational teams to evaluate landed cost components and provide actionable gross margin analysis
Manage inventory-related month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and work-in-progress reviews
Monitor inventory reserves for slow-moving, obsolete, or markdown-exposed goods and support forecasting of related exposures
Oversee adherence to inventory valuation policies and support audit requests tied to costing practices and financial controls
Maintain accurate costing structures, item data, and pricing information within enterprise systems to preserve data integrity
Identify opportunities to automate and simplify the movement of financial data between production processes and accounting records
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
At least 4-7 years of progressive experience in accounting roles
Hands-on background in retail, consumer products, or apparel manufacturing or distribution environments
Strong command of standard costing, manufacturing cost accounting, and cost analysis principles
Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookup functions, pivot tables, and financial data modeling
Solid knowledge of landed cost calculations, inventory valuation methods, multi-currency transactions, and chargeback concepts
