Job Description

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse I. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a congregate care setting. The successful candidate shall possess a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services
  • Reviews and maintains records
  • Maintains security of medications, medical equipment, and supplies in accordance with facility policies
  • Monitors and maintains compliance of safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms
  • Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody for transfers to ensure continuation of care
  • Participates in the Quality Assurance Programs through concurrent monitoring of staff compliance with established policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Requires completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program OR one (1) year of nursing experience (within the last five years) in an acute care setting
  • Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires the ability to successfully pass a drug test
  • Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification

Nice to have

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a congregate care setting
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in and/or beside mental health
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in an Urgent Care and/or related setting
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with a juvenile population
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team
  • Prefers the ability to multitask
  • Prefers strong communication skills
