The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse I. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a congregate care setting. The successful candidate shall possess a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.
Job Responsibility
Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services
Reviews and maintains records
Maintains security of medications, medical equipment, and supplies in accordance with facility policies
Monitors and maintains compliance of safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms
Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody for transfers to ensure continuation of care
Participates in the Quality Assurance Programs through concurrent monitoring of staff compliance with established policies and procedures
Requirements
Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing
Requires completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program OR one (1) year of nursing experience (within the last five years) in an acute care setting
Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois
Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check
Requires the ability to successfully pass a drug test
Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification
Nice to have
Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a congregate care setting
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in and/or beside mental health
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in an Urgent Care and/or related setting
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with a juvenile population
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team
