This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual. The position is responsible for the maintenance of the lawns and drives at Big Muddy River Correctional Center. Job Responsibility:
Monitors individuals in custody in the maintenance of lawns and drives at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center, consisting of trees, shrubbery and flower planting, watering, fertilizing, mowing grass, hedge trimming, tree pruning and removal, etc.
Monitors the maintenance of walks, ditches or water sheds, and roadways around the institution
Directs the use of power equipment such as chain saws, power mowers, tractors, and graders in the maintenance of institution and grounds and makes minor repairs to equipment
Reports infractions of rules by individuals in custody
Coordinates the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other toxics used in the maintenance of institutional grounds
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school
Requires two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance and gardening
Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment
Requires the physical ability to perform the duties of this position
Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
Requires ability to pass a drug screen
Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department
