Job Description:

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Corporate Tax Manager to join our team. Preferred location is flexible across our Scottish and Newcastle offices. The role involves managing your own portfolio of clients and reviewing the work of Tax Seniors and Assistants, particularly in preparing tax provisions and returns for more complex clients. It also includes developing technical tax knowledge and strengthening management skills. We have specialist positions available in the following sub-teams: Owner-Managed Businesses, Transaction Taxes, Large Corporates, International.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage own portfolio of clients
  • Review work of Tax Seniors and Assistants
  • Prepare tax provisions and returns for complex clients
  • Develop technical tax knowledge
  • Strengthen management skills
  • Preparation and supervision of corporate or personal tax computations
  • Planning compliance work and managing process through submission
  • Co-ordinating tax payments, loss relief, capital allowances, group relief and other claims
  • Reviewing complicated tax returns and computations
  • Provision of high-level technical and tax planning advice to clients
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge of corporation and financial reporting requirements
  • Monitoring tax compliance position using tax administration software
  • Liaising with client service team and colleagues in Audit and Accounting
  • Involvement in tax advisory and planning work on client portfolio

Requirements:

  • Highly experienced Tax professional
  • Relevant experience in a corporate tax role
  • Leader of work and professional learning
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to positively impact and influence others
  • Qualified CA and/or CTA (or equivalent)
  • Right to work in the UK permanently without restrictions

  • Direct Tax – Canada: Support the preparation of quarterly tax provisions for both planning and statutory reporting purposes
  • Assist in government audits by gathering documentation, responding to queries, and facilitating resolution of audit matters
  • Oversee the completion of all direct tax compliance activities, including the timely and accurate filing of T1134s, T106s, withholding taxes, and other required tax forms
  • Contribute to the development of the team's direct tax expertise by sharing knowledge, participating in training, and staying current with relevant legislative changes
  • Indirect Tax (Excise, VAT) – Canada: Support the end-to-end compliance for Excise and VAT, including licensing, governance, payments, and classification for all Canadian entities
  • Ensure annual review and adherence to excise management processes
  • Act as a point of contact for all indirect tax matters, including direct communication and dispute resolution with Canadian tax authorities
  • Coordinate with Legal and Supply Chain for product marking and customs-related issues as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and provincial excise and tobacco tax requirements
  • Lead the preparation, review, and filing of GST/VAT returns and payments
