Reporting to one of the Tax Senior Managers, the UK and Ireland Tax Manager will work closely with the Tax Senior Managers and Tax Director, supporting on all activities related to corporation tax for Unilever’s UK and Irish companies. This includes matters specific to Unilever Plc as the ultimate parent. The role requires the ability to manage and deliver multiple workstreams across varying timelines. Some of these workstreams include quarterly tax reporting; overseeing and reviewing tax provisioning and compliance undertaken by outsourced providers; providing tax advisory support on projects and more complex compliance areas; tax forecasting; and liaison with HMRC. The role is also a tax business partner role which involves building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders around the business.
Job Responsibility:
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (finance teams, legal, company secretarial, third-party outsourcers, etc)
Assist on the resolution of ad hoc queries and commercial issues raised by the business, providing relevant and practical advice promptly
Collaborate with finance, M&A and project teams on tax and commercial projects
Support the finance and company secretarial teams in entity rationalisation projects
Preparation of the Group quarterly tax provision calculations using Longview
Review local statutory accounts tax disclosures prepared by the outsourced provider
Oversee the preparation of the annual tax computations and returns by outsourced providers
Assist on other technical analysis such as chargeable gains calculations, SSE, deductibility of expenditure, RDEC, patent box, and any necessary transfer pricing adjustments
Collaborate with the Tax Senior Manager and the outsourced provider in performing the group’s UK CFC review
Support the Tax Senior Manager and Director with the SAO review and controls
Manage the withholding tax compliance process, covering both UK WHT clearances and obtaining residency certificates and other regulatory forms, as required
Manage the Group Payment Arrangement and calculate CT payments on account
Maintain the tax payment database to ensure continuous visibility of the UK’s cash tax position
Liaise with HMRC and ROS on company tax balances, repayments, reallocations and ad hoc queries
Calculate and prepare journals for annual prior year adjustments, and internal charges for payment of group relief
Calculate cash tax and CIR forecasts, as requested by various stakeholders in the business
Perform periodic tax balance sheet reviews to confirm all adjustments, payments, etc are reflected correctly in entity books
Requirements:
Qualified accountant (ACA/CA or equivalent) or tax adviser (CTA or equivalent)
Strong proven ability and 3+ years’ experience in a UK corporate tax department, or audit background with 1+ years’ experience in a UK corporate tax department
Strong tax accounting understanding (IFRS and FRS 101)
Controls mindset, including risk management
Excellent time and project management skills, with a strong bias for action
Relationship building and stakeholder management skills
