Job Description

This role will provide key support to Baxter's various business divisions and Baxter’s contracting and digital/website business teams addressing overall data privacy compliance, as well as support the day-to-day management of Baxter’s privacy program in the US in accordance with Baxter’s Global Privacy Policy and applicable privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA and other state laws).

Job Responsibility

  • Act as an advisor and subject matter expert for Baxter's business divisions
  • Support Baxter contracting/procurement teams and commercial teams regarding data privacy legal questions, contract reviews, and negotiations
  • Advise marketing and digital teams to lead privacy compliance on websites
  • Monitor developments in US privacy laws and related legislation and industry practices and support operationalization of compliance
  • Develop and perform trainings
  • Act independently and provide expert legal advice and counsel to Baxter on privacy compliance matters
  • Partner and interact closely with business and/or functional leaders
  • Identify areas of vulnerability and risk and undertake corrective plans
  • Conduct or support internal investigations of allegations of potential data breaches
  • Lead data subject requests as per privacy laws

Requirements

  • Law Degree from a US jurisdiction and bar membership
  • 7+ years of professional experience in an international company or in an international law firm in the area of data protection
  • Healthcare experience required
  • Medical Device and international experience strongly preferred
  • Expert knowledge of US federal and state data privacy laws (such as HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA)
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches
  • Proven experience counseling business clients on an international level
  • Ability to work independently and navigate ambiguous legal issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in addressing privacy issues in a pragmatic way and within complex organization environment
  • High degree of accountability, professional motivation, and drive
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Proven history of proactively identifying and researching legal risks and issues and effectively counseling clients
  • Strong ability to work with and coordinate activities across a large number of individuals across various functional areas
  • Fluency in English
