Job Description:

The Corporate Counsel will provide day-to-day legal advice, draft and negotiate a variety of complex agreements, manage the resolution of legal disputes, support multiple operational initiatives, and work cross-functionally with other legal teams. This role also requires the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with sales leadership to advise on legal matters with a focus on finding smart, low-risk solutions.

Job Responsibility:

  • Negotiate and draft complex sales agreements and transactions
  • Advise the business in assessing legal risk in the context of broader strategic imperatives
  • Drive departmental initiatives, including the development and redesign of legal support processes to increase efficiencies and better align to the changing needs of the business
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for several specialty areas within the sales and distribution organization
  • Effectively and efficiently manage client and outside counsel relationships

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school, with admission to the state bar and the ability to become a licensed attorney or in-house counsel in applicable state jurisdictions (Washington, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey, or New York)
  • 2-4 years of experience as a business attorney, with relevant in-house and/or law firm experience
  • Experience handling complex sales and distribution matters and often a high volume of work with the ability to prioritize, work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced sales environment
  • Creative problem solver with focus on the client and customer
  • Results oriented leader with executive maturity and ability to interact with senior management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and team up with other legal and business professionals in a large organization with a focus on delivering results
