Job Description

In this vital role you will be the key communication counselor focusing on our Research organization, the function that discovers the breakthrough therapies that transform the lives of patients. Research is undergoing significant transformation to accelerate the ability to bring much-needed therapies to all patients sooner. In this role, this individual will develop and implement strategic communication plans to ensure that audiences better understand and appreciate the innovation happening in research and how Amgen Research is uniquely positioned at this hinge moment where biology is meeting tech. This individual will work closely with the Research Senior Leadership Team to develop and deliver a consistent and compelling narrative about the efforts we are making to innovate all aspects drug discovery. You will use your love of both science and communications to develop meaningful stories that elevate Amgen’s position as a leader in scientific research and innovation and generate excitement internally and externally.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop communications strategies and plans that effectively and consistently communicate to targeted key audiences and stakeholders about the science and innovation going on in research
  • Develop and support executive engagement plan for Research SVP and key VPs, including proactively preparing company spokespeople via media training / presentation skills
  • Partner with the media relations team to address incoming media requests related to research and proactively work to garner press coverage with trade press to elevate Amgen as very much part of the wave of transformation sweeping drug discovery
  • Partner with the product communications team and therapeutic leads on therapeutic area strategy and positioning
  • Manage and direct public relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives
  • Work in partnership with Research leaders and HR on employee engagement / internal communications
  • Partner successfully with investor relations to ensure consistency of messages to external audiences including media and financial world

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Master’s degree & 7 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Bachelor’s degree & 9 years of communications or public relations experience
  • Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism
  • Experience working in-house or within a PR agency
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare product public relations including corporate experience highly desired
  • Hands on experience scientific / research communications desirable
  • Strong oral and presentation skills
