This dual role will oversee the Junior Huskies Program, a community-focused initiative to foster youth development through all Huskies sports. The role will ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants of all ages and skill levels. This role includes coordinating coaches, athletes, and program logistics to provide diverse athletic experiences that promote physical and personal growth. As Head Coach, this role oversees the Men’s Basketball program, which involves coaching, recruitment, retention, and community relations. Key duties include ensuring team success, promoting student-athletes' academic achievements, developing a recruitment plan, managing the budget, and fostering community relations through effective methods.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and implement a Junior Huskies Program emphasizing various sports and athletic skills
Oversee the scheduling of activities to ensure sessions align with participant needs and core athletics programming
Interact with youth participants to promote sportsmanship, leadership, and character development
Develop and implement an effective annual training plan using national and international standards as necessary, considering all aspects of conditioning, preparation strategies, competition (both conference and non-conference), physical and mental well-being, and academic requirements. This includes evaluation, recruiting, and advising athletes
Establish sport-specific and team-specific rules and regulations for student-athletes, clearly communicating the program's goals and objectives
Inform student-athletes of departmental and conference eligibility requirements needed for sports participation and monitor their academic performance according to Huskies Athletics protocols
Evaluate the performance of student-athletes and offer constructive feedback.
Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of 5 years coaching experience at the College, University, and National or Professional level with complete NCCP Level 3 (or equivalent)
Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and time management skills
Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks, including budgetary demands
Project/Event or fundraising management experience
Successful completion of the Respect in Sport Program for Coaches
Consulting, Coaching and Training
Dispute Resolution/Conflict Management
Recruitment and Selection – ability to recruit and retain student athletes
Personal Credibility
Ability to effectively recognize team/athlete needs and take on a number of roles to provide performance solutions and leadership
Superior team-building skills and the ability to adjust to changing priorities.
