As a cook you would be working as part of a small and friendly team within Tukes. Your job would be to maintain a high standard of preparation of palatable and nutritional balance meals on a daily basis using fresh products and ingredients throughout our Acute sites. Although generally based on one site there will be a requirement to work on other areas within the organisation covering annual leave. Or unexpected eventualities. The role will suit a person who has experience of working in a hospitability or care environment with a friendly adaptable attitude and enjoys the variety this role offers, depending on the needs of the business. We are recruiting for a contract comprising of 3 x 6 hour shifts.
Job Responsibility:
Preparation and cooking of palatable and nutritionally balanced meals on a daily basis using fresh produce and ingredients
Plan suitable menus, and to make choices available, including special dietary meals
To be responsible for proper standards of hygiene and infection control, and to control kitchen laundry
To be responsible for ordering of stock and ensuring correct storage and stock rotation
Ensures compliance with Policy and Procedures concerning the health, welfare and safety of service users and staff members
Perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post
The post holder will be responsible for accurate temperature recoding in accordance with HACCP and Food Management Systems guidelines
Train assistant cooks staff and members in meal preparation
Maintain records of meals prepared and monitor wastage
Work in conjunction with other Cooks on site, to ensure the service is consistent
Facilitate any adhoc catering services such as Buffets, AGM events and conferences
Ensure that appropriate uniforms and protective clothing is worn
Liaise with the ward managers to ensure Nutritional care standards are being met
Cooks will be responsible for checking rotas and ensuring full cover and annual leave is taken
Play a significant role in the development of service users training programme
A good attitude is essential to ensure the service users, visitors and staff have a good experience
Responsible for the implementation of safe systems of work
Ensure all equipment and materials in the kitchens are being used in a safe manner
Communicate regularly to the Catering team Leader to ensure that any issues or occurrences are dealt with
Requirements:
Appropriate work experience within the field of catering
Catering experience at chef level
Knowledge of HACCP and COSHH
Good literacy skills
Food Hygiene
Respect trained or willing to work towards
Diploma in Hospitality and Catering or equivalent experience
Working Knowledge of ordering and Stock Control
Understanding of health promotion through healthy eating
Ability to work to high standards within restrictive timescales
Excellent customer service skills
Professional attitude and approach
Nice to have:
Working within a hospital/mental health environment
Team Leading qualification or equivalent experience
Demonstration of further qualification interests
First Aid trained or willing to work towards if required by area of service
Manual Handling
Working knowledge of healthcare catering facilities
Ability to deal with stressful situations and clients
Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems
Ability to work under pressure and be able to prioritise/meet deadlines
Ability and willingness to undertake other duties within area of competence
